Jordan Travis Announces Retirement from Football at Age 24

Jordan Travis, the former Florida State University (FSU) quarterback and 2024 fifth-round NFL Draft pick by the New York Jets, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 24 due to complications from a severe ankle injury sustained during a college game on November 18, 2023.

A Promising Career Cut Short

Travis suffered a fractured and dislocated left ankle during a game against North Alabama, ending his senior season prematurely. At the time, FSU was undefeated and ranked No. 4 nationally. Despite winning their remaining games, the College Football Playoff committee dropped them to fifth, excluding them from the tournament. FSU finished the season 13-1 after a heavy Orange Bowl loss to Georgia.

Drafted by the Jets

In the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Travis in the fifth round. However, he spent the entire 2024 season on the non-football injury list. Despite hopes of returning, continued complications led doctors to advise retirement.

Stellar College Achievements

During his time at FSU, Travis became one of the most decorated quarterbacks in the program's history. He holds multiple school records, including total offense (10,665 yards), passing touchdowns (65), and quarterback rushing touchdowns (31). He led the Seminoles to an 11-0 start in 2023 and finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting.

Retirement Announcement

Travis shared his retirement decision in a heartfelt post on social media, reflecting on the rapid changes in his life and trusting in the greater plan beyond football. The Jets organization and teammates expressed support and gratitude for his efforts and dedication.

Jordan Travis's journey, marked by resilience and remarkable achievements, leaves a lasting legacy in college football.
